The Public Radio Top 40 Songs for September 28th

Here’s the latest chart of NPR Music Stations Top 40 Songs.

This list is culled from the public radio AAA music charts on All Access’s web site. This is a pretty limited use list, but it’s really the only place you’ll find any compilation chart of just public radio stations.
Notes:
Reporting Stations
WFUV New York
KCSN Los Angeles
KCRW Los Angeles
KEXP Seattle
KCMP The Current Minn. St. Paul
KCRL Salt Lake City
KKXT Dallas
WXPN Philadelphia

Remember too that each station’s rotation schedule has a big impact on the chart.  KEXP and KCRW, most notably, play their most popular songs less than 10 times per week.  Other stations, such as WXPN and The Current from Minnesota Public Radio, play their top songs upwards of 20 times per week.  So a song that KCRW likes and is even its number one song is less likely to rank highly on this chart, if at all, if no other station plays that song.  But hey, one spin of a song in LA is heard by more than a song played five times in Salt Lake so it’s all a game of proportion.  But If you’re an NPR Music buff, this gives you a good start to discover some music you might not know about, especially if you don’t have an NPR Music station in your city.
